Applied Behavior Analysis is the systematic application of principles of behavior to improve socially significant behavior. Our program strives to prepare competent, ethical, and professional behavior analysts who work with persons with developmental disabilities.  

Through the use of interactive, state-of-the-art learning technology that maximizes opportunities for high quality participation with both the instructor and peers, this program allows working educators and practitioners to complete the course work and practicum requirements necessary to apply to sit for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) Exam while continuing in their current professional roles.*

Applied Behavior Analysis Program Coursework

The ABA Distance Education Program offers both the BACB Verified Course Sequence (VCS) required by the BACB to sit for the BCBA exam and a Master's degree in Special Education. Students may complete the VCS over either one or two years and may add on one additional year of coursework to earn the additional credits necessary for a Master's Degree in Special Education.  

Intensive Practicum

In addition to the VCS, the University of Washington offers students the option to complete an Intensive Practicum supervised remotely by UW affiliated BCBAs. This Intensive Practicum requires 25 hours per week of direct and indirect work with individuals with developmental disabilities, for a total of 750 supervised hours. Practicing education professionals may complete this practicum in their current professional role, provided that it meet specific requirements outlined here

*It is important to note that the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc.® has approved the University of Washington ABA course sequence as meeting the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Examination. Applicants will have to meet additional requirements to qualify.
