Graduate Students! Are you interested in getting involved in a research opportunity? Get involved in the Predictive and Adaptive Learning Lab.

What is the Predictive and Adaptive Learning Lab?

The Predictive and Adaptive Learning (PAL) Lab, led by Dr. Rick Colombo, explores how Pavlovian and operant principles can be integrated to improve the effectiveness and accessibility of self-control interventions. The lab is driven by a central question: How can we help people make choices today that enhance their quality of life tomorrow? Dr. Colombo’s research focuses on supporting children with and without disabilities in developing self-control, with studies currently being conducted at the Haring Center. This work aims to identify practical, inclusive methods that can meaningfully improve long-term outcomes.

How to Get Involved

Graduate students are encouraged to participate in PAL Lab projects and meetings (Thursdays, 6:50–7:50 pm, Miller 411). Opportunities include:

  • Designing and creating research materials
  • Coding data through video review
  • Contributing to manuscript development
  • Collecting inter-observer agreement and fidelity data
  • Taking on leadership roles in ongoing projects
