CSSS Certificate for Education Ph.D. Students
Gain the skills you need for your career
The goal of this certificate through the Center for Statistics in the Social Sciences (CSSS) is to provide UW College of Education Ph.D. students with a sophisticated toolkit of complementary quantitative skills for their graduate and post-graduate careers. Coursework includes classes from CSSS as well as Education-specific courses offered by the Educational Psychology (EDPSY) Measurement and Statistics program. There is no cost to students beyond successfully completing coursework.
Curriculum
Overview
Requirements: 2 Advanced Courses in EDPSY + 4 Advanced Courses in CSSS + 1 CSSS Seminar
After taking multiple regression through EDPSY (Edpsy 539) or CSSS (CSSS 504), Education graduate students should take a minimum of two advanced psychometrics/applied analytics courses chosen from the EDPSY list (see the “Courses” tab), as well as a minimum of four advanced 3-, 4-, or 5-credit courses in CSSS numbered 510 or higher (note that courses offered jointly between EDPSY and CSSS only count once). In addition, students must also attend at least one quarter of the CSSS 590 weekly seminar (offered throughout the academic year). Notably, courses taken from the EDPSY list can also count toward the EDPSY Psychometrics and Applied Analytics (PAA) certificate.

Completion
After registering and finishing coursework, you should fill out our brief Completion form. This form will be reviewed by the College of Education’s Director of Admissions and Enrollment and the Director of the EDPSY Measurement and Statistics program; after checking all requirements have been met, your information will be shared with the CSSS program administrator and director for their review. Thereafter you will receive your CSSS Letter of Recognition via email.
Note that completion forms are only processed during the academic year (not summer); as well, please allow approximately two weeks for processing time.

Admission requirements and process
Overview
Get registered! As soon as you become interested in pursuing the CSSS Education track (even if you’ve already taken a lot – or even all – of the courses), we encourage you to fill out our brief Registration form. The information is collected by the College of Education’s Director of Admissions and Enrollment and the Director of the EDPSY Measurement and Statistics program to ensure feasibility of course planning.
Costs and funding
Estimated Costs
The courses required for this certificate will be billed at the standard UW tuition rate and included as part of your current tuition. There is no application fee or additional cost to complete the endorsement.
