Podcast: Advancing climate science education at the UN

Deb Morrison, a research scientist with the University of Washington’s Institute for Science + Mathematics Education, recently participated in the UN Climate Change Conference COP25 meeting as part of a UW delegation.

During the meeting, Morrison engaged in discussions related to promoting climate science education with a focus on equity — a goal of the ISME’s current work with the ClimeTime initiative, which is strengthening Washington state educators’ proficiency in teaching about climate science.

In a new podcast, Morrison discusses how education fits into the UN climate change process, insights from the ClimeTime initiative and more.

The opportunity to hear from others involved in climate education efforts across the world was particularly valuable, Morrison noted, with participants sharing their experiences working across communities, building partnerships between formal and informal education systems, and ensuring educational efforts are resourced properly. 

“We’re trying to figure out how to learn continuously and grow and iterate and measure what we’re doing to see whether it's effective and, if it’s not, how do we modify it,” Morrison said.
