My name is Ricky Goetz and I am a Program Coordinator for the Academic Support Team in the College of Education. I support the Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction graduate programs in the College of Education. I am located at the front desk of the Miller Hall 115 Suite, feel free to stop by to ask a question or just to say hello!
I am a first-generation college student and a graduate of UW Tacoma. I worked in several student positions while at UW Tacoma such as an RA and for the Office of Equity and Inclusion. Growing up I found a passion for sketching buildings and cityscapes. I originally wanted to pursue a career in Architecture and then fell into the path of achieving my B.A. in Urban Studies with a GIS certificate.
I became passionate about supporting historically underrepresented communities access and navigate higher education as an undergrad and wanted to continue serving in a social justice capacity in my future career paths. After graduating from UW Tacoma in 2015, I served as a Program Assistant for the Office of Equity and Inclusion. After 6 months as the Program Assistant for the OEI, I joined Palmer Scholars as an intern. Palmer Scholars is a small non-profit in Tacoma that serves low-income students of color and helps students scholars achieve a higher education degree. They help Scholars in high school achieve a higher education degree by providing college readiness training, mentorship, and a scholarship of up to $5,000, renewable for up to five years. Shortly after my internship began I joined Palmer Scholars as their Mentor Coordinator, connecting students with volunteer mentors that would help them navigate through their academic and career goals.
My partner and I recently got engaged and we decided to start our next adventure together in Seattle. We recently moved to the area and have adopted a rescue cat named Marvin!
