The University of Washington (UW) actively recruits graduate and professional students from throughout the nation and the world. In order to provide competitive and meaningful funding opportunities, the UW offers a number of graduate student service appointments. Academic student employees (both domestic and international) in the College of Education receive a monthly stipend, a full tuition waiver, and health insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents.

The College of Education offers teaching, research, and staff assistantship positions to approximately 30 new graduate students each academic year. Primary consideration is usually given to doctoral students with strong backgrounds including successful teaching, research, and/or administrative experience. If you are interested in working specifically on funded research projects, we recommend that you contact faculty members whose research interests most closely match your own.

To be eligible, students must be admitted by the Graduate School and enrolled for at least 10 credit hours per quarter. Positions require an average of 20 hours of work per week. As positions become available, specific job descriptions with requirements and application deadlines are posted. To apply, follow the instructions at the bottom of the position descriptions.

You may also wish to investigate graduate student service appointments outside the College of Education by contacting other departments in which you have an interest or aptitude, or by viewing available positions online through the UW’s Human Resources Division.
