The University of Washington (UW) College of Education offers an online degree completion program in early childhood and family studies. The curriculum prepares you to make a positive and lasting impact on the education of young children.

A Curriculum that Balances Theory with Practice

The early childhood and family studies curriculum combines the study of academic theory with practical training in the field. Core courses are enhanced with the latest research from the National Center on Quality Teaching and Learning, a Head Start-funded effort directed by the UW College of Education. The program also includes service learning courses, during which you can apply what you’ve learned while working alongside teachers in preschool classrooms or childcare centers. Students already working in the field can do service learning at their current jobs, while others can connect with program partners to find suitable placements.

A Flexible, Cohort-Based Online Model

Courses are taught by top UW faculty and professionals in the field, all of whom have established expertise and deep experience in promoting effective, high-quality teaching. All courses are taught online using a group-based asynchronous model. You can complete much of the classwork on your own schedule, and weekly activities and assignments ensure that participants keep pace with the class while interacting with one another as well as the instructor. A new cohort begins the program each fall.
