Learning opportunities are everywhere! Cultivate Learning at the University of Washington College of Education is collaborating with IslandWood – A School in the Woods, Tiny Trees Preschool, the Department of Early Learning, and Washington STEM to host an August institute at the IslandWood school on "Nurturing Early Learning: The Latest Science on Young Children’s Learning in the Outdoors." Attendees will include early childhood staff, educators and leaders in the field of early learning, as well as families and interested funding partners.

The Outdoor Learning Institute, taking place Aug. 5 to 8, will share current research linking early childhood learning and experiences in nature and how attendees can use the outdoors to maximize learning for children. Experts will discuss how participants can develop self-care and mindfulness practices that benefit educators and children alike, and provide attendees with materials they can use in their own context with children.

Speakers will include leaders in the field of outdoor and early learning: Gail Joseph, associate professor of education and director of Cultivate Learning, Dr. Pooja Tandoon, Seattle Children’s Hospital; Andrew Shouse, chief program officer of Washington STEM; and more.

Online registration is now open. Come learn from experts and early learning professionals about making the great outdoors a deep learning experience for children and educators, alike. The institute is limited to 125 participants and includes meals. Many scholarships are available.
