Gov. Jay Inslee welcomed faculty and friends of the University of Washington's Haring Center to the Governor's Mansion in Olympia on Jan. 6 for a discussion of opportunities to improve the state's special education and early childhood education programs.

New UW College of Education faculty member Min Sun is already winning recognition for her scholarship as a recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER award. The five-year award is given to a select number of early career scholars who have demonstrated exceptional promise as researchers and teachers. The award will provide more than $620,000 in support of the assistant professor's research in education policy.

Two Early Childhood and Family Studies students recently returned from an eye-opening exchange program with Queen Maud University in Trondheim, Norway that provided a first-hand look at an educational system vastly different from that of the United States.

Olivia Sullivan, who spent the fall term at Queen Maud with classmate Jessica Funk, said the opportunity to explore another country's educational system as well as Norway's mountains and valleys appealed to her sense of adventure.

The University of Washington College of Education will host a series of three talks this winter and spring focusing on some of the biggest issues in teacher education today.
