The following information is designed to explain how ECO Majors, ECFS Majors, ELS Minors, and students outside of College of Education programs can register for undergraduate courses in the College of Education. See the appropriate section below to understand how you can add a full or registration restricted course. Instructors will not provide add codes or maintain formal or informal wait lists, please do not contact instructors to gain entry to a course. For registration dates please reference the Academic Calendar

Early Childhood & Family Studies Majors

Period One

Courses required for the major, offered by the College of Education, are restricted to students who have declared the ECFS Major. This allows Major students to have first access to our courses so they can progress toward graduation as easily as possible. It is highly recommended you know the courses you need to take at least two weeks in advance of your registration appointment. If you are unsure of your needed courses for next quarter you will need to meet with an adviser in the Undergraduate Office during drop-in hours or in a 1:1 appointment.

Period Two

Some ECFS Major courses will continue to be restricted to students in the major, other courses may open for non-majors. Therefore, it is important you register for all courses you plan to take before Period Two begins.

Period Three

If there are no open seats use NotifyUW to attempt to enroll. Students can add courses until the end of Period Three, this is the first week of classes. Instructors will only give permission for students to add classes after the first week under special circumstances. If you want to add a class after Week One you will need to contact the instructor. If they give you permission to add the instructor needs to send an email to coeugrad @ uw.edu providing your name and course section. An academic adviser in the College of Education will add the course to your schedule.

Education, Learning, & Society Minors

Sophomores and Juniors: ELS Minor Sophomores and Juniors do not receive Period One priority registration, instead, register in Period Two. Instructors will not provide add codes or maintain formal or informal wait lists, please do not contact instructors to gain entry to a course.
