At orientation, you will learn about important resources available to you as an International Student, have an opportunity to meet other College of Education students, start building a community, and get a better understanding of graduate education! The OSDI Graduate International Student Orientation is designed to make your transition as smooth and rewarding as possible!

8:30–9:00 International Student Welcome Activity (Miller 320)

9:00–9:45 Faculty Advisor Relationships at the CoE (Miller 320)

Faculty and student panel discussion on tips for developing a relationship with your faculty advisor, language barriers and other issues.    

10:00–10:30  Funding/Internship Opportunities Panel (Miller 320)

Securing funding and finding internship opportunities can be challenging in the College of Education. Hear about resources that are available to you and from current international students who have searched and secured funding.

10:45–11:30    Cultural Clashes in the Classroom (Miller 320)

An interactive presentation addressing topics such as transitioning to a new academic culture, academic expectations and ethical concerns.

11:30–12:00     Introductions & CoE Community (Miller 112 & 112A)

Attendees of the Students of Color and International Student Luncheon are invited to a buffet lunch to socialize with other students as well as faculty and staff.

In addition to this orientation, new incoming, international students are highly encouraged to attend other events sponsored by the College of Education, such as All New Graduate Student Orientation and the New Student Reception. International Students are also highly encouraged to attend the events hosted by University of Washington's FIUTS organization where you will connect with other international students, and receive several resources at the university.
