After starting her career teaching middle and high school English and history, Jessica Rigby turned to research, concentrating on understanding the role of school and district leaders in the implementation of policy, classroom instruction, improving teacher practice and focus on equity. She earned her bachelor's in history from Oberlin College, a master's in education policy from Stanford University and a PhD in policy, organizations, measurement and evaluation from the University of California, Berkeley.

Anne Beitlers: New Faculty Profile

For Anne Beitlers, joining the UW College of Education as director of the Secondary Teacher Education Program is a homecoming. She is returning to Seattle after earning her PhD in English education at New York University, where she wrote her dissertation on the relationship between teachers' perceived needs of students and their practice in urban, all-male schools.

Won-Fong Johnson: New Faculty Profile

Won-Fong Johnson joined the UW College of Education in September as clinic director and assistant professor with the school psychology program. Johnson is a nationally-certified school psychologist who earned her PhD at University of California, Santa Barbara.

The following joint statement was made in honor of Dr. John Goodlad, who passed away Nov. 29, 2014.

As many of you are by now aware, Dr. John Goodlad, UW Professor Emeritus, passed away last week at the age of 94. On behalf of the education programs across the University of Washington, we wish to express our condolences to his family and to pay tribute to John’s extraordinary contributions to the quality of public schooling and its critical role in a democratic society.

John Goodlad, influential educational researcher and teacher whose work over the last 60 years has had a major impact on schools and the education of educators, died on Nov. 29 at his home in Seattle. The late UW College of Education professor was 94.

Selma Powell: New Faculty Profile

Selma Powell joined the UW College of Education in September as director of the Special Education Teacher Preparation Program. Powell previously served as project director for the Resident Teacher Professional Preparation Program at the University of Central Florida. She earned her PhD at UCF, writing her dissertation on developmentally appropriate use of mathematics applications for tablets in early childhood classrooms.
