Eastside Preparatory School’s vision is to inspire students to create a better world. Our mission is to guide students to Think critically, Act responsibly, Lead compassionately, Innovate wisely. The four mission components guide the development of curriculum as well as the evolution of the EPS culture. Founded in 2002, Eastside Prep was re-accredited by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) in January 2019. Eastside Prep has grown from 17 students in 2003-2004 to a total of 530 students for the academic year 2022-2023. ​​The Resident Teaching program at EPS exists to identify and develop new independent school teachers, equipping them with the skills and habits of mind necessary to thrive in the secondary independent school classroom. EPS will hire two resident teachers during the 2023-2024 academic year. ​ ​​Position Summary: Resident teachers will co-teach students in one of several available subject matters (Computer Science, English, Fine and Performing Arts, History, Math, Physical Education, Science, Social Science, or Spanish Language). Residents will, throughout the year, take on additional teaching responsibility until able to teach independently by the third trimester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Resident Teachers will report to either the Middle School (grades 5-8) or Upper School Head (grades 9-12). ​All full-time teachers work as part of a teaching team to create an inquiry-based interdisciplinary program in which the academic disciplines are taught as systems and methods of thinking about significant content. Responsibilities include curriculum development, teaching, assessment, communication with parents, collaborative work with colleagues, and general engagement with the entire school. ​ What’s interesting about teaching at Eastside Prep? • Eastside Prep offers an inquiry-based, experiential, integrated curriculum. • The curriculum at EPS has been developed, and is continually revised, by the faculty who teach it. • Teachers work collaboratively across disciplines and across grade levels. • Eastside Prep teachers work with students in a variety of group configurations including classes, advising, project development and implementation, and extra-curricular activities. • A school-wide ethic of good citizenship guides faculty/staff in interactions with families and colleagues. • An entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility, and a willingness to participate in the full life of the school are especially welcome. • Class size is limited to a maximum of 18, with several classes averaging 14-16 students. Credentials and Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree in a subject area (Computer Science, English, Fine or Performing Arts, History, Math, Physical Education, Science, Social Science, or Spanish Language) • Able to spend the full year as a resident of Washington State on the EPS campus and have a strong interest in teaching in an independent school.
