Position Description:
The Robinson Center for Young Scholars is looking for instructors to teach enrichment courses as part of our Saturday and/or summer programs. Our Saturday program serves highly motivated students in grades K-8, exposing them to subjects and rigorous academic experiences they may not have access to otherwise. Courses run the range from Philosophy for Kindergarteners to Contextual Economics and Computer Programming. While we are in particular need of Chess, Mock Trial, STEM, and Robotics instructors, we are looking for a broad range of course topics. Saturday courses consist of eight 1 hour sessions, and up to 3 courses per instructor, each quarter. Please send along your resume and a brief course proposal if you are interested! Pay is $35 an hour with an additional paid hour for planning totaling $560 per class taught. We have two summer programs. Summer Challenge, for current 5th-6th graders, emphasizes hands-on learning, field trips, and activities; Summer Stretch, for current 7th-10th graders, is more academic in nature, providing an accelerated, rigorous learning experience. Both programs are characterized by high-level thinking, intellectual adventure, and pursuit of understanding. The programs take place on the UW Seattle campus. Stretch is from July 5 to July 27. It is 4 days a week Mondays-Thursdays, except the first week due to the 4th of July holiday. The Challenge program is July 10 to July 28 and is 5 days a week. All supplies are purchased by the Robinson Center. The classes are no more than 16 students for 1 instructor with 1-2 teaching aides and 26 students for 2 instructors and 2-3 teaching aides. We pay $5000 for the entirety of the work (it is not an hourly position).
