KG - 8th Extended Day Programs (EDP) Teacher

JOB OVERVIEW - PART TIME
This 2.25 - 3.25 hours/day position works under the supervision of the Director of Extended Day Programs (EDP) and in partnership with other adults at Villa Academy. Hours are 2:45 pm - 5:00 - 6:00pm daily. On occasion throughout the academic year, full day care will be offered, requiring additional hours. Under the direction of the Director of EDP, the EDP Teacher will plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities for KG - 8th children, provide care, support them with schoolwork and perform a variety of other needed services for the department. This role may also include working with Preschool-aged children in partnership with an experienced preschool extended day teacher. In addition to working with students, the Extended Day teacher will communicate with families and collaborate with the rest of the EDP team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Community College and/or University degree (Teacher Certification considered a plus), incl. degree in process
A minimum of 2 years experience in working with school aged children in a school/child care setting
STARS training and certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity and understanding of current developmentally appropriate practices in Childhood Education
Has a commitment to ongoing cultural competence professional development and has the motivation to put these skills into practice
Supervise students in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to: the EDP room, the school’s playground, field trips, and the Villa Academy campus at large
Ability to collaborate and work with colleagues
Ability to work with school aged children, KG - 8th in partnership with other EDP teachers
Effective oral and written communication skills with children, co-workers and families
Ability to plan and deliver activities daily, both independently and collaboratively
Actively create and maintain a well-managed, positive room environment that supports student engagement, care and motivation
Strong organizational skills and the ability to be proactive and to solve problems that may arise
Support students with their homework as needed
Develop and maintain positive relationships with students
Desire to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods of time, kneel and sit on the floor and be active with children aged 3 - 5
Ability to perform all housekeeping tasks and any other duties as part of the role's responsibilities
