UW Experimental Education Unit Receives $100,000 Gift from Robert and Jean Reid Presidential Endowed Fund for Excellence

Long-time UW supporters Robert and Jean Reid established a Presidential Discretionary Fund in 2001, providing a source of permanent funding for the UW President to use for special projects. The most recent allocation from this fund by President Michael Young is $100,000 to the UW Experimental Education Unit (EEU). More»

Leadership for Learning Doctoral Portfolio Presentations

l4l doctoral portfoliosAnthony Craig successfully defended his capstone portfolio on April 21st. Anthony is a member of the Yakima Nation and he is the principal of Quil Ceda Elementary School in Marysville. With him in this photo are his wife, Chelsea (Tulalip) and three of their children.

Funding Announcements

The following new grant was awarded to the College of Education in April 2012:

The Center for Education Leadership, with Max Silverman as PI, has received a contract from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for $178,300 in support of a project entitled "Development of Principal Instructional Leadership: Systems & Structures, Models, and Tools." Principal leadership is one of the critical areas of development for implementation of effective teaching strategies across the Foundation's "Partnership Sites to Empower Effective Teaching." This project will facilitate the sharing of practices and challenges in strengthening principal leadership across the Partnership Sites so that these sites can collaborate on improvement in this area. It will also produce knowledge and resources that can be disseminated to other educators in the field.

Amy Baeder, Leadership for Learning Cohort 4 Alum

Amy Baeder and Prof. Margery Ginsberg presented a session entitled, "Methods to Improve Instructional Leadership" at the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Developers (ASCD) Annual Conference in Philadelpia.

Catherine Brown: Danforth Principal Preparation, Cohort 25 Student

Catherine Brown, academic dean at Cleveland High School, received the 15th Annual University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Excellence in Educational Leadership Award for her significant contributions to leadership preparation. The award was presented by Professors Margery Ginsberg and Kathy Kimball at the May 16th Seattle Public School Directors Meeting. Catherine Brown was nominated by Margery Ginsberg, Kathy Kimball, Marge Plecki, Mike Knapp, Ann Ishimaru, and Meredith Honig (Leadership for Learning faculty team in EDLPS). Click here for video»

Andrew Eyres: Leadership for Learning Cohort 4 Alum

Andrew Eyres coauthored an article in The Kappan entitled, "A Partnership Raises Healthier Children" with University Place School District superintendent Patti Banks and board president Rick Malony.

Margery Ginsberg: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Faculty and Leadership for Learning Faculty lead

Margery Ginsberg will deliver a keynote entitled, Making Sense of Motivation in 21st Century Post-Secondary Instruction: Culturally Responsive Considerations and Practices at the University of Central Florida's 2012 Annual Faculty Development Conference on May 5th.

She will also deliver the 22nd Sara Varnum Institute for Instructional Excellence keynote presentation at Chemeketa Community College on May 11th. The Institute is an Oregon statewide conference for part-time faculty. The keynote is entitled Supporting Student Intrinsic Motivation through Planning and Instruction.

Cathy Thompson and Paul Robb: Leadership for Learning, Cohort 3 alums

Cathy Thompson and Paul Robb, Leadership for Learning, Cohort 3 alums, presented a session at the ASCD Annual Conference in Philadelphia with Prof. Margery Ginsberg (lead faculty, L4L) . Their session was entitled, "Building the Capacity for Transformative Adult Learning throughout Your District."
