Mike Bryant (Student): UW Scholars’ Studio

Mike Bryant was recently selected as one of 10 doctoral students across campus to participate in the recent Scholars' Studio hosted by UW Libraries and the Graduate School, presenting his research as it pertained to their theme of the Autumn quarter version of this event "Worlds Collide".  It took place on Nov. 21st in the Research Commons.  The title of Bryant’s presentation was: Higher Ed and Athletics: When Identities Collide for the Developing Individual. Dr. Maresi Nerad (Faculty): German Volkswagen Foundation, Association of the Studies in Higher Education (ASHE)

Maresi Nerad, director of CIRGE, was invited to be one of three keynote speakers by the German Volkswagen Foundation to an international conference on the Future of the Doctorate- Goals, Quality Assurance, and Perspective, November 5/6, 2013 ,Germany. Her talk is titled Doctoral Education and Innovation Policies.

At the annual meeting of the Association of the Studies in Higher Education  (ASHE), Nerad will present a scholarly paper with the title, QUALITY MEASURES for THE DOCTORATE: DEVELOPING ‘FIT FOR USE’ DOCTORATES WORLDWIDE.   She will serve as chair and discussant for two sessions during the meeting.

Dr. Samuel Odom (Alum): Gesell Prize Winner

Dr. Samuel Odom won the Gesell Prize, an international award that includes: "10,000 euros, a silver medal, and a legacy alongside the international leaders in child development research." Samuel was named a Distinguished Alum of the UW College of Education in 2011.  More>>

Gabby Parker (Student): UW Volleyball in Finals

Early Childhood and Family Studies student Gabby Parker scored the winning points to bring UW women's volleyball into the finals. As of press time, Washington, Wisconsin, Texas, and Penn State are the final four teams standing in the 2013 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships, and will arrive at KeyArena to conclude the national title chase this week as Seattle hosts its first Final Four in volleyball. 

Dr. David Stroupe (Alum): Michigan State Faculty

Dr. David Stroupe joined the faculty of Michigan State as an assistant professor.

Somin Yeon (Student): Association of the Studies in Higher Education (ASHE)

Somin Yeon, a multicultural studies/ higher education student, associated with CIRGE, is presenting a poster at ASHE. 

Julia Zigarelli (Alum): ASCD Express

Julia Zigarelli, school psychology alum, published an article about Federal Way, WA home visit initiative. Julia Zigarelli , Rebecca Nilsen , Trise Moore , and Margery Ginsberg began a project in Washington State's Federal Way Public Schools to use home visits not only to strengthen family-to-school relationships, but to also make our curriculum and instruction more culturally responsive and inclusive of our students' diverse backgrounds.
